The Eb diminished chord is usually written Ebdim and uses the notes Eb, Gb and Bbb. Melodies over Ebdim can draw on the Eb whole-half scale, which contains every note of the chord.

The outer notes are a diminished fifth apart, the tritone, which splits the octave exactly in half. All 4 voicings are fretted without a barre, and none uses an open string. Bbb is a theoretical note, which is why the same sound is also written D#dim. In sound, Ebdim matches the vii chord of E major, which that key spells with other letters.
