In A#maj7#5, also called A# major seventh sharp five, the notes are A#, C##, E## and G##: the root, major third, raised fifth and major seventh. The stack runs major third, major third, minor third, so it is an augmented triad with one minor third on top.

Spelling it correctly takes C##, E## and G##, so charts usually prefer the twin spelling Bbmaj7#5. The chord tones all belong to the A# Lydian augmented scale, a good starting scale when you improvise over this chord. A#maj7#5 and Bbmaj7#5 are enharmonic twins: two names for the same pitches.

With a major seventh it does not carry the pull of a dominant seventh chord, and the colour is floating rather than tense.
